Pledge to boost medical training places rings hollow, say leaders

admin

Medical leaders are concerned about the government’s slow progress in increasing medical school places. Despite a promise to double places by 2031-32, only 350 additional places have been funded for 2025-26. There will be no new capital funding for schools wanting to accept more students. The allocation of these extra places in the following years is uncertain. Medical schools will need to justify if capital will be needed for future expansions. Medical leaders fear this slow pace will not meet the increasing demand for healthcare professionals in the coming years.
