The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman has warned that patients with mental health conditions are at risk when leaving hospital care in the UK. Ombudsman Rob Behrens called for urgent action from the government to bring in reforms in the mental health bill to ensure better care and treatment for those detained under the Mental Health Act. A report analyzed over 100 cases, revealing failures in patient care, including lack of communication, failure to inform families about discharge, and inadequate assessment of requests to leave hospital. These failures can lead to poorer outcomes, including an increased risk of suicide. The report highlighted specific lapses in the cases.
