New COVID Vaccine 54% Effective at Preventing Symptoms

admin

The CDC announced that recent COVID-19 vaccinations provide 54% more protection against symptoms compared to unvaccinated individuals. The vaccine is effective against various COVID variants, including the XBB and JN.1 variants. Only 22% of American adults have received the updated vaccine, and public health experts are concerned about the lack of uptake. The vaccine is less effective at preventing transmission but significantly lowers the chances of developing serious illness, hospitalization, or death. The effectiveness was tested on 9,222 COVID tests, and the results were reported in the MMWR. The CDC recommends vaccination for all Americans 6 months and older. Later this year, the CDC will release information on how effective the vaccine is at preventing severe symptoms that require medical care.
