The World Health Organization’s cancer agency has warned that the number of new cancer cases will rise to over 35 million in 2050, a 77% increase from 2022. Factors such as tobacco, alcohol, obesity, and air pollution contribute to this rise. The most developed countries are expected to see the highest increase in case numbers, while countries with a lower Human Development Index will see the greatest proportional increase. Cancer mortality is also projected to nearly double by 2050. The impact of the increase will be felt unevenly across different countries, with those with the fewest resources to manage cancer burdens bearing the brunt.
