A concerning rise in measles cases across the U.S. and Europe has prompted local doctors to urge families to get vaccinated. The CDC has reported 23 confirmed U.S. cases, including two outbreaks and seven direct importations of measles by travelers. Most cases were among unvaccinated children and adolescents. Doctors are reminding patients to protect themselves and their communities by getting vaccinated as measles is highly contagious and can lead to serious complications. The Massachusetts Medical Society is advising parents to ensure that children receive their measles, mumps, and rubella vaccinations to prevent the spread of the disease. Measles symptoms include high fever, cough, runny nose, watery eyes, and rash.
