The House panel passed a bipartisan bill to ban drug middlemen from charging fees based on drug list prices, representing Congress’ first PBM reform efforts. The bill, introduced by Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, would allow PBMs to only charge a flat service fee and would ban spread pricing. Additionally, it would prohibit PBMs from steering patients to affiliated pharmacies. These changes would only apply to health insurance for federal employees, covering over 8 million of the nearly 160 million Americans with employer-based health insurance.
