New research shows that exercise can reduce, but not fully eliminate, the adverse effects of sugary drinks on cardiovascular health. Even meeting recommended levels of physical activity may not be enough to protect against the risks of consuming sugary beverages, which have been linked to weight gain, obesity, and health problems like diabetes, heart disease, and tooth decay. The study, which followed 100,000 adults over 30 years, found that even relatively low-frequency consumption of sugary drinks was associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. The research team recommends that people limit their intake of sugary drinks and focus on replacing them with healthier options, such as water.
