A study published in the journal Pediatrics found that pregnant women who receive an mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccination or booster during pregnancy can protect their infants against symptomatic COVID-19 infection for at least six months after birth. This underscores the importance of getting vaccinated during pregnancy to ensure infants are born with strong protection until they can be vaccinated. The study analyzed data from 475 infants and found that those born to mothers who received both doses of an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine along with the booster dose had higher levels of antibodies at birth and greater protection from COVID-19 infection during their first six months. This highlights the benefits of maternal vaccination for newborns too young to be vaccinated.
