Bioptimus launches with $35M to create an AI foundation model for biology

French startup Bioptimus has secured $35 million in seed funding to develop an AI foundation model for biology. The company plans to merge biology with generative AI to drive breakthroughs and innovation in biomedicine. The founders include former scientists from Google DeepMind and French AI company Owkin. Bioptimus will use Owkin’s data generation capabilities and access to patient data from academic hospitals globally, as well as an Amazon Web Services computing environment. The use of AI in the life sciences sector is growing, with companies like Absci, Boehringer Ingelheim, IBM, Genesis, Vivodyne, AION Labs, and startups DenovAI and TenAces also involved in AI-enabled drug discovery.
