Republican lawmakers introduced legislation to weaken the Inflation Reduction Act’s Medicare drug price negotiation program. They found support from a Democrat, Rep. Don Davis of North Carolina, who was not in Congress when the original bill was voted on and received donations from pharmaceutical companies in 2023. Davis said in a statement that he supports the development of medical treatments and cures, and declined to elaborate further. Rep. Greg Murphy (R-N.C.) and Brett Guthrie (R-Ky.) also joined him on the bill. This development comes as a surprise since every Democrat in Congress in 2022 voted for the original law.
