Winter virus rates in Donegal more than twice national levels

Six counties in Ireland, including Donegal, Westmeath, Leitrim, and Sligo, have reported high rates of Covid, flu, and RSV above 500 cases per 100,000 population. Donegal has the highest rate of seasonal viruses, with more than two-and-a-half times the national rate. The county has also been significantly impacted by the current flu season and RSV, with the highest case numbers. Longford has the lowest combined virus case rate, with just 97 cases of respiratory illnesses. The Health Protection Surveillance Centre has reported an increase in Covid and flu cases, along with a slight rise in RSV activity in January. Public health officials urge vaccination and staying at home if symptomatic.
