Nikki Haley, a Republican presidential hopeful and former South Carolina governor, will wait to see how her campaign is received after the Iowa caucuses. She spoke on health care policies while governor, criticizing some of former President Biden’s policies. Haley has also taken positions on Medicare, Social Security, and health equity. Her tenure saw an emphasis on improving South Carolina’s Medicaid and a controversial bill banning abortions after 20 weeks. She also opposed a state-run health insurance marketplace and declined Medicaid expansion. Her stance on vaccine mandates changed, and she now opposes them. Despite some initiatives, some rural hospitals closed during her tenure.
