A team of researchers has developed the MindEar app to help individuals overcome tinnitus through training and sound therapy delivered via a smartphone app. The app includes training programs, cognitive behavioral therapy, and sound therapy to aid in managing tinnitus symptoms. The app helps individuals to practice focus through a training program, equipping the mind and body to suppress stress hormones and responses, reducing the brain’s focus on tinnitus. In clinical trials, two-thirds of users experienced improvement after 16 weeks, and this was shortened to 8 weeks when patients additionally had access to an online psychologist. Larger trials are planned to continue testing the effectiveness of the MindEar app.
