At the beginning of 2024, manufacturers of popular diabetes drugs that are also used for weight loss, including Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly, raised their medication prices. The monthly price of Ozempic increased by 3.5% to almost $970, and the cost of Mounjaro rose 4.5% to almost $1,070. Pharmaceutical companies have increased list prices on 775 brand-name drugs so far in 2024, attributing the increases to market trends, inflation, and the value the drugs provide. Patients and health care professionals are typically angered by such price increases, and the U.S. government plans to begin negotiations with drug makers over prices of drugs this year.
