A new study from the University of Exeter found that engaging in music throughout your life is linked to better brain health in older age. Researchers from the PROTECT study looked at data from more than a thousand adults over 40 to see the effects of playing a musical instrument or singing on brain health. The results showed that playing a musical instrument, particularly the piano, is associated with improved memory and cognitive function. Singing was also linked to better brain health. The study suggests that promoting musical education and encouraging older adults to partake in musical activities could be part of public health initiatives for brain health.
