In 2016, Richard Timmins attended a free seminar to learn about Medicare Advantage. After being convinced to enroll, Timmins later found his choices for medical care restricted. Now with a diagnosis of malignant melanoma, he wants to switch back to traditional Medicare but found he is unable to do so. More than half of Medicare-eligible individuals are enticed with the low- or no-premium cost and extra perks that these private plans offer, but as they grow older and sicker, they regret their decision. Medicare Advantage plan patients are restricted in the services they can use despite the many benefits they are offered.
