Researchers at Radboud University and University Medical Center Utrecht are working on restoring speech in people with paralysis disorders using brain signal readers and artificial intelligence. They have developed a brain-computer interface that can produce accurate speech by reading brain waves, giving hope to people with locked-in syndrome. The study involved non-paralyzed individuals with brain implants speaking specific words, which were then converted into audible speech with 92-100% accuracy. This technology has the potential to revolutionize speech restoration, although it is currently limited in vocabulary and complex language analysis. The researchers hope to make this technology available to paralyzed individuals who have lost their ability to speak.
