Measles: Birmingham outbreak declared a national incident and likely to spread

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has warned that without urgent action to increase measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccination uptake, outbreaks of measles will spread to other towns and cities in the UK. The agency declared the current outbreak in Birmingham a national incident, allowing for more resources to be allocated to tackling the problem. As of 18 January, there have been 216 confirmed cases and 103 probable cases. Urgent measures are needed to prevent further spread of measles and to increase vaccination uptake to prevent future outbreaks.
