How Beneficial is Early Acne Education for Adolescents?

admin

A study in Pediatric Dermatology found that early education about acne led to improved health literacy and increased help-seeking behavior. The Acne Education Project in British Columbia involved 2292 students in grades 5-7. Pre-intervention surveys showed misconceptions about acne, but immediate post-intervention surveys revealed significant improvements in knowledge and help-seeking behavior. However, 1-month follow-up surveys showed declines in knowledge retention. Study limitations included survey design and short-term follow-up. The researchers concluded that early education resulted in increased knowledge and comfort in seeking help, but the benefits were not fully preserved after 1 month. Some study authors declared affiliations with biotech, pharmaceutical, and/or device companies.
