Covid-19: Undervaccination was associated with higher risk of hospital admission or death, study finds

A study conducted in the United Kingdom revealed that over 7000 cases of hospital admission or death due to Covid-19 could have been avoided during a single wave of the pandemic if everyone had received the recommended number of SARS-CoV-2 vaccination doses. Researchers used individual level health data to analyze undervaccination across the UK and found that it was associated with a higher risk of severe Covid-19 outcomes, particularly in people 75 and over and those aged 16 to 74. The study, published in the Lancet, reported that on June 1, 2022, 44% of the population aged 5 or over were undervaccinated. The authors emphasized the importance of using health data to improve healthcare outcomes.
