Covid-19: Some US states and hospitals recommend masks again

US hospitals and medical centers in several states are reintroducing mask requirements due to a rise in COVID-19, flu, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) cases. At least six states and various hospital systems have reinstated mask-wearing mandates for staff and patients. This decision was made to prevent staffing shortages, as the omicron wave led to numerous health workers falling ill. Additionally, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported an increase in COVID-19 cases and related indicators. Despite vaccines being available for all three viruses, vaccine uptake has been low, especially among older adults. Overall, the surge in infections is attributed to the spread of the new variant and inadequate vaccine coverage.
