Biden-Harris Administration Expands Access to FDA-Approved Contraceptives

The Biden-Harris administration has released new guidance for health plans and insurers to expand access to all FDA-approved contraceptives at no cost. This falls in line with President Biden’s Executive Order to strengthen access to affordable contraception and family planning services, following the US Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v Wade. Xavier Becerra, US Secretary of Health and Human Services, has outlined the administration’s latest initiatives to advance contraception access and protect patient privacy. This includes a new pathway for patients to access contraceptives when their private health coverage is exempt from ACA requirements, prohibiting the disclosure of reproductive health-related information, and the FDA approval of norgestrel tablets for nonprescription use.
