Phone Attachment for Pupil Measurements with Any Skin Tone

admin

Researchers at the University of California San Diego have developed a smartphone attachment to measure changes in pupil size, useful for neurological conditions. This helps people with darker skin tones, who were previously underserved by available technology. The attachment fits over a smartphone camera and uses far-red light to capture images of the iris and pupil, making it easier to assess pupil size changes. The technology aims to bring fair access to healthcare for everyone, regardless of skin tone or smartphone model. Placing the attachment over the eye, the camera can flash the eye with bright light and record pupil movement. The device has been tested successfully with volunteers of different eye colors.
