Mindfulness-Based Interventions Can Reduce Intensity of Chronic Low Back Pain

admin

A recent meta-analysis of 18 studies published in the Clinical Journal of Pain found that mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) can reduce the intensity of chronic low back pain. This is significant as opioid misuse is common in patients with chronic pain and non-pharmacologic therapies like MBIs are preferred to avoid worsening impairment and disability. The meta-analysis revealed that MBIs have a beneficial effect on pain intensity in adults with chronic low back pain. However, the study also noted limitations in the analysis, including differences in study methodologies and the need for more large-scale randomized controlled trials to provide reliable effect size estimates for MBIs in persons with chronic low back pain.
