Many Mothers And Their Children Share Same Birthday Month; Here’s Why

A recent study found that women are more likely to have children in the same month as their birth, and births within immediate families tend to cluster within a given month. Researchers evaluated data from over 10 million deliveries in France and Spain and found a spike in births in January among mothers born in January and so on. Similar birth patterns were observed for siblings and parents. The phenomenon is attributed to shared socio-demographic features of family members, such as food availability and exposure to sunlight affecting fertility. The study’s limitations include the assumption of “independence of outcomes”, but adjusting for this factor did not affect the results.
