Magnetic Dressing Improves Diabetic Wound Healing

Researchers at the National University of Singapore have developed a magnetic hydrogel wound dressing that contains two different regenerative cell types. The dressing is stimulated by an external magnetic field, which causes mechanical stresses to act on the cells, stimulating them to grow and enhancing their regenerative potential. The advanced dressing aims to treat difficult-to-heal diabetic wounds, and has increased cell growth rates by 240% and doubled the amount of collagen produced. The dressing can reduce wound recurrence and promote overall wound health. It can potentially be used to treat other chronic wounds and was published in the journal Advanced Materials.
