Junior doctors: Health secretary urges leaders to call off strikes and re-enter talks

England’s health and social care secretary, Victoria Atkins, has urged junior doctors’ leaders to end their latest round of strikes and resume talks with the government over a pay dispute. Atkins stated that many junior doctors would be uncomfortable with the timing of the strikes due to the impact on services and colleagues. The latest strike, lasting three days and bringing the total to 28 days this year, is set to end on December 23. This will be followed by a six day walkout from January 3 to January 9. Atkins hopes the doctors will reconsider and engage in dialogue with the government instead of continuing with the strikes.
