At the French Urology Association’s 2023 conference, Dr. Charlotte Methorst and Dr. Carol Burté discussed the importance of doctors being involved in the detection, assessment, and treatment of female sexual dysfunction. They emphasized the need to spot sexual dysfunction, which can impact quality of life and relationships, and can also be a symptom of other conditions. To detect the condition, the self-assessed Female Sexual Function Index and the Sexual Complaints Screener for Women are important tools. Treatment options include simple advice, lifestyle changes, sex therapy with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and medication. Topical hormone treatments and testosterone may also be prescribed, and collaboration with a sexual health specialist is important.
