Colorado board leaves Vertex drug off a list of unaffordable medicines

admin

A Colorado state board voted not to place Vertex Pharmaceuticals’ cystic fibrosis medication on a list of drugs for which payment limits will be set for most residents. The board unanimously found the $310,000 medicine to be “not unaffordable.” This decision came amidst a series of meetings reviewing proposed medicines, as Colorado is one of seven states with prescription drug affordability boards. These boards seek to set payment limits for medicines paid for by state and local governments, and in some states, commercial health plans as well. This decision is a win for Vertex Pharmaceuticals, as their best-selling medication is spared from payment limits.
