Researchers have found a link between acetaminophen use during pregnancy and delayed language development in children, particularly in males and when used in the third trimester. Acetaminophen is commonly used for pain relief and fever and is considered safe for use during pregnancy. However, the study does not prove a direct cause and effect relationship and more research is needed to understand if other factors are involved. Previous studies have also shown a link between acetaminophen use during pregnancy and increased risk of ADHD in children. The U.S. FDA recommends pregnant women discuss their medication use with healthcare professionals before taking any pain relievers.
