Night Owls At Higher Risk Of Diabetes: Study

Researchers have found a link between being a night owl, or someone who prefers staying up late and waking up later, and an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes. This risk is not solely due to unhealthy lifestyle habits, such as poor diet and smoking. Night owls also tend to have larger waistlines and more hidden body fat, which contributes to their higher risk. A study involving 5,000 participants in the Netherlands revealed that late chronotypes had a 46% higher risk of type 2 diabetes compared to those with an intermediate chronotype. The findings suggest that changing lifestyle habits may improve metabolic health in late chronotypes.
