A recent study published in Frontiers in Nutrition found that better nutrition, specifically including more fruits and vegetables in the diet, can lead to optimal sleep duration. The study included 5,043 adults from Finland, examining their diet, sleep patterns, and chronotype. Results showed that those with normal sleep duration had higher fruit and vegetable intake compared to short or long sleepers. The study also found that chronotypes had minimal impact on the relationship between diet and sleep. Targeted interventions focusing on specific fruit and vegetable sub-groups, such as green leafy vegetables and fruit vegetables, could lead to behavior change and improved health. Further research, particularly longitudinal studies, is recommended to better understand these associations and their implications for public health.
