A study presented at the Future of Parkinson’s Disease Conference found that short-term use of daily cannabis (CBD/low THC) by patients with Parkinson’s disease did not improve motor symptoms compared to a placebo. The study included 61 patients, with the cannabis group showing a reduction in motor symptoms, but not significantly different from the placebo group. Adverse events were mild but more frequent in the cannabis group. The study suggests that short-term cannabis use may not be beneficial for patients with PD and could potentially worsen cognition and sleep. Researchers recommend longer-term trials with improved cannabinoid products to further investigate the effects of cannabis on PD.
