During the open enrollment season for the Affordable Care Act, there are ongoing challenges. Enrollment numbers for new and returning sign-ups through healthcare.gov are lower than last year. The deadline to sign up for coverage starting on January 1st has been extended to Wednesday, with open enrollment ending in most states on January 15th. The Biden administration is seeking to put on hold a federal judge’s order that would prevent “dreamers” from enrolling in ACA coverage. The ruling has been temporarily stayed by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit. The government estimates that about 100,000 uninsured DACA recipients might sign up for coverage in 2025.
