Adults aged 50 years born preterm have a higher risk of hypertension but lower risk of cardiovascular events compared to those born at term, with similar risks for diabetes, prediabetes, and dyslipidemia. A study analyzed 470 participants from the Auckland Steroid Trial, finding a higher risk of high blood pressure in preterm-born individuals. Those born preterm had a lower risk of cardiovascular events but higher all-cause mortality. The study suggests that awareness of being born preterm may lead to seeking preventive treatments. Limitations include a small sample size and attrition bias. The study was supported by various foundations with no reported conflicts of interest.
