Trusts have been reminded to inquire about time-critical medicines for patients after a patient died due to missing Parkinson’s medication. The patient did not receive 10 out of the 18 required doses during a three-day stay in the emergency department. Subsequently, he was transferred to a ward where his condition worsened and he eventually died. The Health Services Safety Investigations Body (HSSIB) published a report on the incident, emphasizing the importance of ensuring timely administration of necessary medications in emergency departments. Patient safety and communication between healthcare providers regarding critical medications are crucial in preventing similar incidents.
