A study found that consuming 2 oz. of pistachios daily for 12 weeks significantly increased macular pigment optical density and serum lutein concentration in healthy adults. This suggests that pistachios, as the only tree nut with significant lutein content, could be an effective dietary intervention for preserving eye health. The study included 36 participants who were assigned to either consume pistachios daily or follow their usual diet. Results showed an increase in MPOD and serum lutein levels in the intervention group, highlighting the potential benefits of including pistachios in a healthy diet for eye health promotion.
