AI program can help identify signs of childbirth-related PTSD

Researchers have adapted an AI program to identify signs of childbirth-related post-traumatic stress disorder (CB-PTSD) by analyzing short narratives of patients who have given birth. The AI model successfully identified a large proportion of participants likely to have the disorder, with the potential to identify more with further refinements. CB-PTSD affects around 8 million people worldwide annually and current diagnosis methods are time-consuming and costly. The study, funded by the NIH, suggests that using AI to analyze narratives could make the diagnosis of CB-PTSD more accessible, benefiting individuals who could benefit from diagnosis and treatment. The study was led by researchers from Bar Ilan University, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Harvard Medical School.
