A study presented at the ASRM Scientific Congress & Expo found that women who used IVF had a higher prevalence of severe maternal morbidity compared to nonusers. The risk for severe maternal morbidity was lower for women who used IVF at older ages. Researchers analyzed data from 1,728,478 singleton pregnancies in California from 2016 to 2020 and found that overall, 0.98% of pregnancies were conceived through IVF. The study suggests that preconception optimization is important for women of all ages using IVF, as the relative risk associated with IVF appears dampened at older ages.
