A systematic review and meta-analysis of over four million COVID-19 patients found that individuals with multiple long-term conditions are two and a half times more likely to die from the virus than others, with children at an even higher risk. This study, conducted across 51 countries, highlights the need to prioritize patients with multiple long-term conditions in health care policies. Patients with multiple long-term conditions have higher chances of hospitalization, needing mechanical ventilation, and admission to the Intensive Care Unit following COVID-19 infection. The research emphasizes the importance of addressing the increased vulnerabilities of individuals with multiple long-term conditions during public health emergencies like the COVID-19 pandemic.
