Approximately 706,480 people were on acute hospital waiting lists at the end of September, showing a slight increase in the last year. The data from the National Treatment Purchase Fund revealed that 87,022 patients were waiting for inpatient or day case treatment appointments, 23,883 were waiting for GI Endoscopy appointments, and 595,575 were waiting for their first hospital outpatient consultation. The Department of Health stated that the figures indicate progress made through a multi-annual plan to tackle hospital waiting lists.
