COVID-19 booster coverage low among children on home ventilation

A study published in JAMA Network Open found that children with tracheostomy and home ventilation had low COVID-19 vaccination rates, especially for boosters, despite higher than average influenza vaccination coverage. The study evaluated 193 children and found that only 23% received a COVID-19 booster, compared to 50% of children nationally. Older children and those who received an influenza vaccine were more likely to get a COVID-19 vaccine. The authors stressed the need for qualitative studies to understand vaccine resistance, measures to optimize access, and education programs to improve vaccination rates among high-risk populations and the general public.
