HIQA is conducting a review on emergency care delivery in the mid-west, focusing on University Hospital Limerick (UHL). The final report will be sent to the Health Minister in summer 2025. The review will involve input from medical professionals and patients through a clinical advisory forum and stakeholder engagement. It will also consider the findings of a previous investigation into a patient’s death in UHL. The review will address challenges faced by UHL, such as overcrowding and lack of inpatient beds. There are plans to determine if a second ED is needed in the region. The review aims to improve emergency healthcare services in the mid-west.
