A study presented at the American Academy of Dermatology Annual Meeting found that children with moderate to severe atopic dermatitis have a higher weight and BMI, but lower height compared to healthy children. The study included 1,329 children with AD, showing that 50% of boys and 51% of girls with AD were above the 50th percentile for weight, while only 38% of boys and 52% of girls were above the 50th percentile for height. The researchers suggest that chronic sleep disturbances and certain medications used for AD could impact children’s growth. Early intervention with targeted therapies may help mitigate these effects.
