A study published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology found that Type D personality, characterized by negative affectivity and social inhibition, was an independent predictor of major adverse cardiac events in patients with CAD and their spouses. The risk was especially high when both the patient and spouse had Type D personality. The researchers conducted a prospective cohort study of 4,035 CAD patients and their spouses, assessing Type D personality using the Type D Scale-14 questionnaire. They found that Type D personality in either the patient or spouse was associated with an elevated risk of major adverse cardiac events, suggesting the need for couple-centered interventions to mitigate cardiovascular risk.
