After suffering a stroke, British grandmother Althia Bryden began speaking with an Italian accent and using Italian words, despite never having visited the country. She was diagnosed with aphasia and found herself unable to control her newfound linguistic tendencies. Bryden expressed feeling like an impersonator of herself, wishing to return to her old self. Despite being grateful for surviving the stroke, she longs to rid herself of the Italian accent and mannerisms. She described her experiences to GB News, hoping to find a way to “switch this stuff off” and return to her original self.
