Allison J. Applebaum, PhD, is leading the new Center for Caregiving at Mount Sinai and will also serve as professor of geriatrics and palliative medicine. Previously, she was the founding director of the Caregiving Clinic at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where she focused on providing psychosocial care to family caregivers of cancer patients. Applebaum’s work addresses the significant distress experienced by family caregivers and aims to meet their unmet psychosocial needs. Her expertise in psycho-oncology will now expand at Mount Sinai to include caregivers of individuals with other disabilities or illnesses. R. Sean Morrison, MD, praised Applebaum’s leadership in caregiving research and development of unique caregiving models.
