New research suggests that yoga can help ease the emotional toll of a cancer diagnosis on women. A study from the University of Florida found that a 10-week intervention involving yoga, mindfulness meditation, and psychotherapy skills helped reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression in women with gynecological, gastrointestinal, or thoracic cancer. The program’s use of yoga and meditation alongside psychotherapeutic training was particularly beneficial, especially for women of color. The researchers believe that integrating yoga and psychological tools can strengthen the mind-body connection and improve the quality of life for cancer patients.
