A sedentary lifestyle is linked to an increased risk of chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes. Researchers suggest taking short breaks to counteract the effects, with a recent study showing that sitting for more than six hours a day can raise blood pressure. Even replacing 10 minutes of sedentary time with light physical activity can lower blood pressure significantly. The study followed 2513 children from age 11 to 24, finding that as sedentary time increased, blood pressure rose, while light physical activity helped lower it. Engaging in light physical activity for at least three hours a day is critical for maintaining healthy blood pressure levels.
