The National Office of Clinical Audit (NOCA) reported an increase in the number of hip fracture patients being transferred out of the emergency department within four hours last year, with 29% receiving timely treatment compared to 21% the previous year. The Irish Hip Fracture Database (IHFD) also showed improvements in hip fracture care, with 75% of patients receiving surgery within 48 hours and 83% being reviewed by a geriatrician or nurse practitioner. Despite these improvements, 4% of patients developed pressure ulcers during their hospital stay, highlighting areas for improvement. The report emphasizes the need for continued efforts to enhance bone health assessments and nutritional screening.
